My company uses Spigit for this. We have a Fish in our logo so our clever HR came up with the site campaign of Fresh Ideas Start Here (FISH). It get’s pretty decent use and has a social aspect in that once an employee submits an idea they are encouraged to promote and get peers to give it a thumbs-up. I think one aspect that keeps it going is the organization shows that it is taking actions based on employee submissions. The Spigit system also does a great job of alerting the user of any events taken on their submission such as category changes or votes placed for or against it.
I work with the City of Fort Wayne where we went with UserVoice (good experience). We did one ideation launch for naming a new building purchased to be the new City Hall. It wasn’t too long before someone put in a submission for the building to be named after a previous Mayor with the unique name of ‘Harry Baals’ (FeedbackFortWayne.org). Once it was in the system it instantly became the most popular idea. Although from our web logs we could see most voting was from outside of our community (due to the national press coverage). In the end the Mayor decided not to go with the popular submission and had to answer to Jimmy Kimmel for it (link).
Besides the humor link there is nice related article here with some pricing numbers.
