In talking with Jeffrey Levy, the issue of web governance came up, and I raised my concern about agency web workgroups typically not being able to well-accomodate interactive web mapping, given template limitations, 508 compliance and so on – we typically have to get waivers to be exempted from compliance. Jeffrey points out that the Federal Web group could benefit from input from the geospatial community by way of documenting best practices, and ways to better accomodate, integrate and normalize (where appropriate) geospatial and web mapping content, while facilitating, promoting and accomodating emergent geospatial technologies in a way that doesn’t consistently seem at odds and against the grain relative to agency web templates. I would definitely be interested in any thoughts that folks might have along these lines…
