Don Fitchett replied to the topic Question: After the Workshop What Are Some Continuously and Actually Useful Resources for Regulators? in the forum Forum Discussions 8 years, 6 months ago
Thank you Stacy, Steve and Jenny; for getting me thinking about this. For our PLC Training workshop, we encourage students to connect via our social media outlets to connect with their peers, give them hand-outs and extra learning material, our email should they have a question later, etc. We even give them a software that keeps their skills up and allows them to increase their skills, which I feel is beyond what most do who deliver seminars/workshops.
But the truth is that most use the software we provide, and that is it. Most don’t even connect via social media networks we maintain to connect with their peers/classmates (mostly maintenance personnel we train which are less likely to do social media:>), and that has always nagged at the back of my mind. Because of you all’s post, it got me thinking on this issue again, and came to a fresh realization this time.
Solution: We, as the training provider, need to push support after workshop, instead of current model of student pulling support from us. Like in my case, I should email all past attendees and follow up if they used the critical asset spreadsheet we provided, and are keeping it up to date. Do they need any help with it, or other support. Basically 3 and/or 6 months later re-engaging them in what they learned in the seminar/workshop. Thanks again you all for getting me re-engaged in this issue. :>)
