When the economy is down, state governments find themselves with less tax revenue and more constituents in need of important services. This results in state governments being forced to do more with fewer resources.
In response to this budget deficit issue, many state and local governments will cut back on important services including government personnel. However, there are some state and local governments who weather the storm by operating more effectively, increasing efficiency and cutting their operating expenses.
This recent article by our client, Pitney Bowes Management Services, highlights a case study on the OneIndiana effort, and how the State of Indiana took simple steps with mail services which ultimately produced a savings of more than $3 million a year to put back into the state’s coffers and the taxpayers’ pockets.
As this article examines the success with the State of Indiana, hopefully this can serve as good information to find similar ways to take simple steps that save money with other state, local and federal agencies.
