I could easily see this being used in order to pay people less… but the functions of supervising, managing, and administration cannot disappear.

Eric Melton replied to the topic To Call or Not to Call…contacting a hiring official after reaching “referred status” to snag the interview in the forum Career Advancement 8 years, 1 month ago
I’ve had success sending a concise email to a hiring official/commander/C-level Chief.
-something along the lines of, “Sir/Ma’am, I’m on the referral list for X, I’ve recently been leading X project / had X success, I’m very interested in the mission of your/X unit/agency, and would enjoy being a part of it/could contribute by X. Please give me…[Read more] -

Eric Melton replied to the topic Un-Dressing for Success in the forum Miscellaneous 8 years, 11 months ago
One can certainly dress well for a LOT less. $85 for socks?!?… they’re still socks.
Having said that, dressing well in business attire is important (in office settings), tie or not, and lends an air of professionalism. -
Eric Melton replied to the topic How Should You Handle Anger in the Office? in the forum Career Advancement 9 years ago
All good answers and points Dannielle.
I had a boss who used to tell intense/angry people with a chuckle, “Hey, it’s only government work…” which I initially thought ran contrary to our values and pride in our work… but it was effective at diffusing many hotheads. I guess it was a play on the old “good enough for govt work”, which I am…[Read more] -

Notes, papers, electronics, sticky-notes, scribbles… are all everywhere.
for tracking and reminding I rely on one place, and it needs to be paper.
A weekly-format Calendar book works best for me. I jot tasks, to-do’s, workouts, anything I want to track. Items actioned get a check mark, completed get a circled check mark, and items put off or…[Read more] -

Eric Melton replied to the topic Is project management just for project managers? in the forum Program and Project Management 9 years, 1 month ago
I’m an active member of our local PMI chapter, and have heard seminar presentations from everything from zoo managers, to city managers, to a PM for a virtual border fence project. What that has shown me is, if you can master all the areas to manage a project, you can run your own business, team, department, city, division… etc. It teaches…[Read more]

Having saved $Millions of tax dollars with my own initiative several times over, it’s all a slap in the face, honestly. There are other ways to save money in the personnel arena, and there are others ways to save besides personnel.

@1enf3uehnr1pjHallo Kirby,
(new soccer-song slang;) …

Interesting article post Scott.
In my experience, organizations that have high turnover (esp. my experience in US Army Europe) have high diversity and are more open to change, and therefore more progressive and vibrant. In the states, it’s a different story. People “homestead”, become stagnant, and generational gaps are also more…[Read more] -

@00el4vvaxdon4Hi Dave, thanx for the add.
Best of luck in your job search. I can only imagine the frustration of fighting as far as interview stage, then having to telephone interview (which is typical)…
I actually have a colleague that has a stutter, but his performance, attitude, appearance, and credentials outshine any disability, and…[Read more] - Load More
