I heard a talk at NIH which made the opposite prediction. Jay H. Sanders, M.D.(CEO of The Global Telemedicine Group Organization and Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins gave a talk called:
“Our Healthcare Delivery System:Where We Are and Where We Need To Be”
I don’t have a copy of his slides but basically he pointed out that people have built and are building attachments to our mobile devices that will let the individual monitor our vital processes and employ on-line analytics to give us basic health status. We will then have brief contact with a a nurse for some additional expertise. In his view he primary care physician will be more of a specialist and gatekeeper now for the hard cases.
