I just got a chance to review your slides – great job, and I am sure it will be a super course!
I thought that the mix of how-to’s for various social media tools combined with user stories, exercises and scenarios was very effective. I also picked up some tips that I plan to use myself – e.g. tools such as Google Alerts, or thinking…[Read more]

Andrew, great questions and discussion by all! Here are my own answers:
- Advancing career: social media has helped me broaden my career “branding” and personal network beyond my principal focus on SharePoint governance consulting. It has helped me to expand my “reach” to KM, ECM, project management and open source software collaboration…

Andy, PM Podcast sounds like a good resource. I’ll listen to it – it may give pointers for my own BlogTalkRadio show. CIO TalkRadio is also pretty good, based on the few programs i have sampled.

I have been experimenting with a BlogTalkRadio (BTR) Show, and am finding it to be a quick, low cost and inter-active way to interview experts in collaboration technology and business management process in the D.C. area. I understand DOD is using BTR, and I am finding great ROI as I paste BTR recordings into my personal blog. Listen in or twitter…[Read more]

My impression is that the PMP credential is well worth having from a career perspective, even if in practice it may be difficult to apply PM type principles to public sector processes.
I have also had good results – in both quality of presentations and benefit of networking with other project managment types – at PMI-DC events, esp. their monthly…[Read more]

Mack: Not sure I will be able to make Ed Hild’s FEDSPUG session this Thursday due to a conflict, but would love to be there. Ed is a great speaker, and as you know, he did a great job keynoting our past SUGDC SharePoint user conferences. Missed you at the last FEDSPUG meeting…hope all is well!

A great topic for discussion!
A technology aspect to this: do any have some thoughts or experience on how to best meld flexible, informal social networking technology (wikis, blogs, Facebook type) with more formal, structured content management systems (e.g. SharePoint) in Government?
Given our experience at State (where we are applying…[Read more]
