All good examples of platforms for crowdsourcing. Another one that instantly came to mind was Speakup Austin! which uses a product called CivicIdeas and takes the crowdsourcing a step further in that it allows the good/popular ideas to move into a “focus group”-like setting for further discussion and movement towards implementation.

Was just talking about this very subject with a previous manager of mine yesterday. He said from an emergency management perspective they say the span of control is 5-7 people and he recommends that be applied to management practices as well for the highest level of effectiveness.

I’m not a huge fan of the way Pinterest does the collaborate feature. You might want to ask one of the users what the email notification said. I don’t think there is a way to customize it and some users might not know what it is. I had a friend that wondered why this new board showed up on her profile and how others were pinning to it. Wait, how is it that your target audience doesn’t include women? A little recognition goes a long way. I worked with a large team that gave out “Kudos” bars during the all staff meetings. Anyone could nominate someone else for a “kudos” and then explained why they deserved it. It got people thinking about their peers and how they had helped them in the last month.
