I am going to reply in the “affirmative” to my former DHS colleagues’ reply that aiding access to GovLoop is a vital measure.
I know (a) there is a GovLoop Topic under “Intrroduction and FAQ” titled “Access to GovLoop.com at Work” [http://bit.ly/dSB2JR] which begins to address this and (b) there is a letter which GovLoop can produce for any Federal worker to make the case to their respective OCIO to grant access, but it’s still not no easy.
One suggestion may be so set up an external site which doesn’t get “pinged” by IT security as “Social Networking” which provides – Department by Department, Agency by Agency, Office by Office – EXACTLY how to navigate getting GovLoop white-listed.
When I was working for DHS, we had a form we submitted on which we had to produce justification and get supervisory approval. Not too painful, but you had to know the process.
