Most people get Ph.D.s because they want to teach at the university level or do research. Just because you have a Ph.D. doesn’t mean that you’ll get a job or even make more money (in the Government) if you already have a job. In fact, if you look at most Federal positions, a Ph.D. only qualifies you for the GS-11 level. Be clear about why you want to go back to school. Also, there’s a big difference between getting a Ph.D. from a traditional, research-based university and getting a Ph.D. online. Many of the new Ph.D. programs do not require original research, which is the standard for a traditional, research-based university.
