In July 2000, I was hired by OPM to be the project manager for a governmentwide initiative to help transform and professionalize the HR occupation. I worked in concert with the Human Resources Management Council (the old HRMC, predecessor to the CHCOs) and Gail Lovelace was one of the senior HR leaders I worked with. I created a Career Debvelopment Guide for HR Specialists, convened an interagency team that developed a Model Two-Year Training Plan for new Federal HR Specialists (Grades 5-7), and helped create a prototype web site for a learning portal for HR Specialists. I spent a couple of years working on this issue, and briefed numerous Agencies on HR workforce transformation. I frequently spoke about this at Conferences and agency meetings. Unfortunately, neither of the two documents were ever published and the learning portal was never implemented. However, I still have the knowledge and I have copies of these documents.
When I heard about the recent forum to discuss the HR profession, I smiled. Been there did that. Maybe some of the work will actually fo forward this time.
