Jon Lee started the topic Getting Verified for State Agencies on Twitter in the forum Technology 6 years, 6 months ago
We have a few state agencies in Texas that would like to get verified accounts for Twitter. Has anyone been able to do so by contacting Twitter? They make it pretty clear that they’ll call you and not the other way around.
I tweeted @gov but did not get a response.

Blaming PowerPoint for a lousy presentation is like my mom blaming her car for backing into a trash can.

Jon Lee replied to the topic Free Ticket: What is the #1 Trend in Communication in 2012? in the forum Communications, Citizen Engagement, Customer Service 7 years, 10 months ago
I’m going on a limb: the #1 communication trend in 2012 will be internal. I predict that the rise of cloud services will improve our business processes and encourage collaboration across the enterprise. Services like Microsoft 365, Google Apps, Salesforce and others will allow us to collaborate on a single document, retiring the old method of…[Read more]

In Texas, we just passed a bill requiring agencies to post high value data sets. http://www.texastribune.org/texas-local-news/public-information-act/new-laws-push-government-transparency-protect-priv/
However, there are ways for agencies to weasel out of this requirement so it’ll take more than just legislation to keep the movement alive.

@3k65tkauggcrcHi Robin, glad you’re coming to Austin! Have you checked out workintexas.com? A lot of state openings are moving to that website. It’s not the most user friendly but there are a lot of postings there. Take a look and if you have a specific question, let me know and I’ll try to find out for you.
Also, if you need tips on looking for…[Read more]

@3hleb3xmu86c4Thanks for weighing in on my post, Craig! Do you think these tactics you used to build Craigslist into what it is today could translate into higher adoption rates for online government transactions?

@29d9j8q7e8r5lWell, I haven’t been active on govloop for a while. Just got back into it a few days ago when Mr. Govloop told me to add my blog posting to govloop. But I should get into it more. This is good stuff.

Jon Lee started the topic Twitter Updates their Terms of Service! in the forum Forum Discussions 10 years, 3 months ago
On September 10, Twitter updated their Terms of Service. Up until this point, Twitter’s TOS was relatively harmless compared to other social media sites like Facebook and YouTube. According to their blog, they said the changes were minor and implied that everything is okay. However, there is new language that might make it difficult for public…[Read more]

Sorry to be verbose, Kelly. In case my point came out jumbled, here it is in less than 140 characters:
Upgrade the INTRANET by replacing a static, web 1.0 arena with dynamic and powerful applications

Government entities can benefit from social media with an inside-out approach. Why do organizations continue talking about how great Facebook, Twitter, forums, blogs, and wikis are, but they don’t take advantage of these applications within their own networks? The intranet is a powerful resource that is greatly underutilized in organizations. Most…[Read more]

Thanks for the post Jeffrey! Somebody really took some time to develop this. There are a few things I would do a bit differently, but overall, the most comprehensive policy I’ve seen thus far, and whoever wrote it obviously understands how to leverage Twitter beyond giving status updates and posting news links.
The only immediate gaping hole I…[Read more]

Thanks for the post Adriel, but it’s still too high level. Good idea to retain copies. There are still a lot of “what if?” questions that a lot of public entities don’t consider before they launch into social media. If there were an authoritative body like the W3C who can offer best practices and policy recommendations to offer direction for…[Read more]

Hi, if your department/agency/government entity operates a Twitter account, do you have a formal document outlining the policies, especially around public information requests and records retention?
