Perfect Bill, I think you’re spot on. You’ve made me change my mind.

Love it, I think this would be mine too. If a project manager could do only 1 thing, facilitating understanding between all project stakeholders and the team would be what I’d focus on.

The single most important thing? Or do you mean the single thing that should be improved?

Josh Nankivel replied to the topic How do you measure the results of an intangible product? in the forum Program and Project Management 8 years, 5 months ago
Start by specifying what quantitative measures you plan to impact with the result of the project. Measure the baseline values prior, and then again after you have delivered the project. ROI is usually pretty clear – sometimes it is an objective yes/no answer to a question though, like did you implement something that now meets regulatory compliance.

At least one of my teams and I are planning to transition from our current delivery method using Kanban back to Scrum, incorporating some lessons learned from the last time we did so.
This time around, we’ll be going deeper. We’re in a place now where we can get around or integrate with the contract structure better. Less of my time trying to…[Read more]

Yesterday at the office we had a ‘brown bag’ session over lunch about Scrum, an Agile product delivery method.
I enjoyed the session a lot, and probably spoke too much. 🙂
As we talked about pros and cons, and how to go about implementing it was pretty clear people want to do this, and it’s feasible too. The first steps are already being taken…[Read more]

And while sometimes I like MS Project, most of the time I hate it.

I love leankitkanban – very slick and flexible for a kanban delivery and communication mechanism for my team.

I may be writing about project management tools and exploring them more in the future.
What is your favorite tool?
For that matter, what is your least favorite piece of junk tool?

Josh Nankivel replied to the topic How do you deal with multiple managers? in the forum Leadership, Management, Supervision 8 years, 6 months ago
I think Taylor was very, very wrong.
If someone is working multiple projects and there’s a clear time allocation given, then yes they’ll report to the different project managers, and any allocation or priority conflicts need to be worked out by the managers or perhaps a functional manager who really controls where staff is allocated.
But I don’t…[Read more]

I’m curious if others are dealing with this.
Rather than hiring new staff for a project, because I have a development background in the required area of expertise I opted to plan on doing some implementation work alongside the rest of my team.
Sometimes this is great. Sometimes, like right now, everything happens all at once and it’s difficult…[Read more]
