Check out Challenge.gov, the federal government’s online platform for innovation challenges and prizes. Challenge.gov allows agencies to post challenges, and at the same time, allows the public to find all challenges in one place.
Challenges often gain better solutions because they tap into the wisdom of crowds. In a challenge, one party – a “seeker” – challenges a third party – a “solver” – to identify a solution to a particular problem, or rewards contestants for accomplishing a particular goal. Incentive prizes, which can be monetary or non-monetary, often accompany innovation challenges and contests. Challenges can range from fairly straight forward (idea suggestions, creation of logos, videos, games, mobile apps) to proofs of concept solving the grand challenges of our time.
Citizens and solvers can add their name to support challenges that interest them, vote for solutions, participate in online discussions, subscribe to updates by email or RSS, and share with their friends and family via social media.
Challenge.gov has passed reviews for security, privacy, accessibility, and other federal requirements. Agencies can create challenges at no cost, and can also use challenge.gov to showcase challenges and contests being conducted on other sites and platforms.
