One of the big issues will be around records management and eDiscovery. Google docs tend to lose formatting during conversion and this could have records management implications. Clearly, it is important to preserve formatting for historical and records purposes. Also, of interest is the technology and process that will be used for eDiscovery purposes. As more government agencies are subjected to increasing expectations for managing content, developing appropriate, efficient and effective processess and policies for ensuring electronic content can be found and protected during litigation, one has to wonder if a consumer based system will meet the needs of a large enterprise like LA. Legal consequences of failing to meet eDiscovery requirements could quickly wipe out any perceived “savings.” .
