Hi Charles. I think we agree that it’s important to make the offer to converse and go from there. Open government has to start with someone. Best, Len.

Hi Victor: Without question, Pew Internet has the best demographics on who is using the social media.
It seems that some topics (i.e., college related issues) will be more amenable than others (i.e., criminal justice) and I assume that most of the difference is based on age. Two-thirds of the country uses social media. 95% percent of those younger…[Read more]

    http://leonardsipes.com/why-do-social-media-the-new-gold-rush/
The social world is unfolding rapidly. Costs are declining dramatically. People really expect you to be engaged in the social world. Not doing social makes you seem like a backward entity.
There are endless complexities and unknowns when it comes to social. Everyone wants a business…[Read more]

I believe that a new version of social media is coming into clearer focus, one that simply invites people to the conversation via search and Twiter, Google+ and Facebook. I believe that successful social media is not dependant on a large and never-ending…[Read more]

A new report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project on “Why Americans use Social Media” provides some insight. In essence, people use social media sites to connect with friends and family. Everything else (including your website) just gets in the way.

I love social media and I believe that the future of communications is social. I believe that social media will be an integral part of the next major emergency in the US and we need to know how to handle it.http://leonardsipes.com/emergencies-and-social-media-a-problem-in-need-of-solutions/

Last day at Blog World-New Media Conference in LA. See photos of my interview with Dot-TV. More energy in three days than I’ll see in the next three months.

Social media is alive and well. Now, all we need to do is figure out just what the hell all this really means for the future of communication.

    See link for photos.

The debate is whether social media is a conversation or a one way form of communication. I argue that it’s a matter of quality versus quantity.

Hi Donna: Greetings from the Blog World Social Media Conference in LA.
    Very well put.
I did not mean to suggest that people should not use experts; I use a consultant to operate my private sites at http://leonardsipes.com and http://mylifeaudio.com (http://designpx.net/) “but” the point remains that social media “is” far less costly that it was…[Read more]

Hi Bob: First, I don’t make a dime off social media and to those I help, I do it for free.

There is so much evidence as to the growth of social that the benefits are self-evident. Your points are accurate that it’s not all it’s supposed to be which applies to every form of communication and advertising.
Not all are going to engage “but” the…[Read more]

Hi Bob: The investment by the private sector in social media is growing by leaps and bounds. Why?
Shouldn’t government be as proactive in reaching out to citizens? Shouldn’t government offer an array of products that match learning styles?
It’s an offer to engage. It’s an offer to serve. Isn’t that what we are supposed to do?
    Best, Len.

Hi Robert: Agree to many of the things you say. There isn’t enough space in any article to hit all points.
But any person who puts up a website or social media site understands that there “is” a key audience who “will” interact you and the interaction “will” have an impact on your organization.
    It’s quality, not quantity.
    Best, Len.
