I’m forming an online learning circle for people to share recommendations, resources, and effective practices on participatory budgeting.
We’ll start when there are 20 people who are interested in being active participants (pioneers who can share a few short questions or useful links each week for a few weeks to get the group started).
Eventually…[Read more] -

Hi Chris and Steve, thanks for the questions.
If this app stored a copy of all links sent out by anyone using the #opengov hashtag on Twitter, it would capture a tremendous amount of news stories and case studies about opengov. In this way, it’s just a shadow of what Google already provides (but limited to opengov, of course) and the daily…[Read more] -

The #opengov tweet stream is a tremendous resource of curated links, but there currently is no public archive of these tweets. I’m looking for a few collaborators who would be interested in building a lightweight, open source tool to address this need.
Currently services like HootSuite enable users to save and search through 100,000 tweets, but…[Read more] -

Thanks to those who have been replying via the mailing lists and directly via email. With those suggestions, I am continuing to update the chart. There’s no limit to the number of organizations that we can include there, so please do keep sending them. This chart will be helpful for people who are just now getting introduced to the concept of…[Read more]

Hi All,
I thought if I added the word “audit” to this post it would make it sound more fun 🙂 I’m trying to visualize the OpenGov community and I welcome your perspective. It would be wonderful to hear your answers to the following questions.Question #1: What are the major U.S. opengov subcommunities?
Which other organizations belong in the…[Read more] -
Lucas Cioffi replied to the topic Differences between Gov 2.0 and Open Gov in the forum Technology 9 years ago
Definitions: If Gov2.0 = “tech in gov”, then Gov2.0 = tech-related open gov programs + things like cloud computing, telecommuting, etcNote: I’m thinking social media is already included in open gov so it would not need to be listed separately. Or can there be use of social media that is not at least a bit transparent, participatory, or…[Read more]

Given what we’ve learned over the past two years, should we rename ourselves to something other than the “OpenGov” Community?
Also, is our current framing of the community around “transparency, participation, and collaboration” serving us well or not?
For this stage of our community’s growth, who are we trying to reach, and is our messaging…[Read more] -

Lucas Cioffi replied to the topic What research already exist about cultural change in government? in the forum Culture Change and Open Government 9 years, 9 months ago
Two resources:
- Although culture is group behavior, it’s possible to change culture by changing individuals. I generally believe that the most sustainable change comes from within, so in order to change culture, allow people to change themselves. This won’t happen on its own; we all need a push to get us started. When our group of co-organizers…

I’m wondering whether we (the opengov/Gov 2.0 community) can actually make this happen: http://local-opengov.eventbrite.com/
The plan is to reach out to local officials in 100 cities across the US and internationally during one week in May by holding participatory, two-hour meetings. The purpose is to learn of their opengov success stories, share…[Read more] -
