Looking at the point about RSS and SharePoint got me thinking about other ways that information can be delivered to the user. First that comes to mind is Discover Point for SharePoint. It is built on teh FAST enterprise search (but can be used with other search tools like Automy) adn rather than push information based on feeds it tracks your interaction with the portal and pushes relevant information, so if you work on three documents dealing wiht H1N1 it will start pushing H1N1 people, sites, information etc to you.
Another option is Concept Search tool set. Slightly different search tool that understands word groupings as a concept so if you were looking for Blood Bank ti would return information on that rather than a set of results delaing with Blood or Banks. THey have a demo coming up soon ….
Government Business is blooming with SharePoint, FAST, and conceptClassifier! Please join Microsoft, FAST, Concept Searching, and InfoReliance at a ½ day seminar April 27th at the Microsoft Chevy Chase Office. You’re invited to learn more about SharePoint 2010, FAST, and how Concept Searching’s conceptClassifier for SharePoint is being used in Public Sector organizations to eliminate the common barriers to information management including Records Management; identification of unprotected data assets such as PII, PHI, FOUO, & Secret; FOIA and eDiscovery; and to improve findability in Enterprise Search. Not sure if they plan to do it as a web cast, if there is any interest in them doing it as a web cast I can reach out to them and get that set up for them (the user group I run has it’s own Live Meeting servers so it makes doing that a lot easier)
Let me know if you want to see either product up close, I can get that set up for you
