Mary Yang started the topic How do you measure stakeholder outreach & engagement? in the forum Citizen Engagement & Customer Service 6 years, 4 months ago
Are you measuring stakeholder outreach/connection and engagement? If yes, how are you doing this? Is it per-channel (e.g. Facebook “likes” and engagement; Twitter followers and re-tweets; email subscribers and opens/clicks; etc.)?
Are you/is your organization putting more value on a certain engagement over another (e.g. a Twitter RT is “less…[Read more]

Mary Yang replied to the topic Job title(s) that reflect the full range of “communications” in the forum Communication Best Practices 7 years, 1 month ago
Any time!
You could also try to go the “funner” route by using something like Wordsmith or Communications Ninja for the Minnesota Department of Revenue. If not in the job title, maybe the description?
Definitely let me know when you post the position too! I may know a few folks who are looking. -
Mary Yang replied to the topic Job title(s) that reflect the full range of “communications” in the forum Communication Best Practices 7 years, 2 months ago
Hi Larry! I was just responding earlier this week to a young professional about how job titles don’t always describe the full range of duties involved. I applaud the team for moving to have a title that’s more indicative of the position & its capabilities.
I think Editorial Content Coordinator is a decent title option.
In reading your post, I did…[Read more] -

Is there a reason you’re looking to send messages to followers? I’m assuming the responses below that involve legal counsel refer to contact with specific individuals. Would you still need legal counsel if you just surveyed your entire audience without tracking who they were?
An idea would be to get perspectives from everyone who reads your blog…[Read more] -
Mary Yang replied to the topic Facebook Ad Campaigns – Driving Likes to “Discover a Career at NIH” in the forum Technology 8 years, 1 month ago
I don’t disagree with Justin about using likes as a metric, but if this is a first stab at something like, a basic metric such as a like may be helpful in measuring initial success. I do agree that a better goal would be the number of resumes received via Facebook. This would be the ultimate measurement for success for this project. (Funny timing:…[Read more]

Mary Yang started the topic How are you innovating or experimenting? in the forum Digital Communications 8 years, 2 months ago
Innovation is a hot buzz word these days. Tech magazines rank the most innovative companies in world. Industry groups do the same for government. So what does it take to actually be “innovative?”
In the book Running the Gauntlet by Jeffrey Hayzlett, Deustch Inc. CEO, Linda Sawyer states, “Be fearless and not afraid of failure. If you don’t take…[Read more] -

92!? I didn’t think I was *that* much of a millennial. I have a landline…but maybe it’s because I send 10+ texts a day?

In my last job (private sector), our CEO actually had IT remove the “Reply All” button from email messages because it was used by too many people unnecessarily!

I agree with both Shannon & Eric. In government, we can get caught up in presenting information in an authoritative and formal way. But the truth is that we’d never talk that way. If in doubt, I always read out loud what I’ve written to see if it’s something I would say to someone. If it sounds awkward when I hear it, then I rewrite.
