My technique is simple… I rely on my electronics to keep me organized throughout the day, and my notes/calendars to keep me organized when I am not working or in the office.
I keep documents open until they are completed. I keep emails open that I plan on referencing later. And I always leave a trail to follow if I am to return the next day to unfinished work. I only use post-its for quick notes that I need to deliver or carry with me. Otherwise, I use a calendar book to jot down things that are happening in the future. If stuff needs to get done today, it immediately goes down in my notepad if I am not near my computer.
In summary, I really prefer to tackle things as they come. I do not like putting things on hold, nor do I like having to constantly revisit something. My goal is to rely on my notes as little as possible. Memory often serves me right, but a couple of scribbles or breadcrumbs never hurt!
