Speaking for those of us who are far away from DC – I am salivating on my keyboard with nothing nearly so interesting to eat within a 100 mile radius. It all sounds wonderful!

Thanks for the new suggestions, Ed. I already had a reminder set on my iPhone for the release days of the the Burke and Koontz books. I love Odd Thomas! But the others sound good, as well. I can always count on you for good book recommendations.

I’m told The Stonecutter is excellent! Do I need to read the other two books first in order to enjoy the third? And I love the Benjamin January books-will order a Kindle copy of the newest one this afternoon. I’ve recently been reading all the Neil Gaimin books. Definitely different.

I’m taking a girl’s trip to New Orleans in March with my daughters, granddaughter and good friend. Rented an historical house uptown near the river and located around lots of good places to eat. We’re planning a kayaking trip in the swamps around New Iberia and Bayou Teche. I understand you get eye-to-eye with big ‘gators! We didn’t plan it…[Read more]

We had the same issues at our home, Ed. I changed my husband to whole grain pasta by mixing 1/3 whole grain and the rest processed flour pasta when I cooked it. I gradually added more whole grain and less processed flour pasta, We have now completely converted to all whole grain and actually like it better. Unfortunately I don’t have a brand…[Read more]

Bought an iPad 2 with all necessary extra covers, keyboard, stand, etc. for my retired husband to play with. I’m not a tech type person, so I also kept the receipt in case he needs to upgrade my purchases.

Nook black & white has 3 times the battery life of Nook color. We have one of each. Regret the Nook color because we don’t use it for magazines or any color page books.

Tina Fey’s book “Bossypants” is light & fun. Also, Neil Gaiman’s “The Graveyard Book” is great.

Thanks for the Southwest “heads up”, Stephen. Because of your message, I now have a $100 ticket to Chicago. Excellent deal from Kansas City!

Do you mean The Salt Lick in Driftwood, Texas? There is no better place on earth!
There’s also one in Round Rock, TX as well, but not like the original!

If you are looking for great steak in any restaurant, ask in advance where their beef comes from. I guarantee if you can find Nebraska beef, it will be fantastic. I’ve traveled the entire country with my job for many years, and have never had as good a steak as in Lincoln, NE. I believe it’s the beef, not the cook, that makes a great steak.

@GeekChick, you should try contacting Hearts United for Animals in Nebraska. A no-kill shelter that rescues dogs daily – some from puppy mills that flourish here in the Midwest. They always seem to have lots of small dogs for adoption. They will also ship dogs all over the country, if necessary. Check out their website at http://www.hua.org and look at…[Read more]
