I agree with everything Jacque says about the basics (pay, benefits, etc.), but I think in addition that organizational flexibility is key – understanding that the social media landscape is constantly and rapidly evolving. Part of that flexibility is being open to strategy adjustments based on trends and the evolution of new tools to communicate my organization’s key messages.
Staying abreast of all that is going on so that I can provide the most value possible to my boss/client is also an important aspect of social media. I want my employer to encourage me to read, attend seminars, engage with industry experts – that is key to providing true value in social media.
