I am looking for best practices and examples of how Social Media can be used to create a more transparent and citizen-centered Government.
Why would a federal government organization use Twitter? How can Facebook help a City to provide better services? What does not work or where did some experiment go wrong (so we can learn from it)?

Ever tried the Q&A feature on LinkedIn? You can post questions and get answers. The great thing is that it is not limited to your group or your own network. It really helped my finding the right people and getting answers within a couple of days.

I agree about helping each other by sharing best practices, but I disagree that competition is necessarily the opposite of that.

That makes sense and that is what I am experiencing all the time. In the Netherlands, they decided that municipalities are the main contact point for citizens with “The Government”.
So all municipality websites now contain a catalogue of services provided by local, provincial and federal government organizations. That makes it way easier to find…[Read more]

In the USA, there is the National Association of Government Webmasters (NAGW, http://www.nagw.org/).
