I have really enjoyed reading all these posts. I find occasional “earned rewards” are so beneficial. I don’t put my best efforts forward in order to get a reward or award, but the fact that my effort has been noticed and appreciated is very inspiring. I believe that a boss who genuinely appreciates the work of the employees will get the best results – and those who don’t give their best efforts to such a boss probably won’t do so for a reward, either. I’ve worked for supervisors who believed in rewarding everyone in the office, and I found that disheartening, since not everyone worked at the same level. To me, it showed a lack of attention to the employees and their accomplishments. I don’t see rewards as the problem – like most things, it’s how they are used by people. Great discussion topic!
