Scenario 1 (HR Practitioner) I would advise the manager to assign the new employee to a team project which would allow her to work with and interact with the other employees. This would help her become a productive member of the team/organization a lot sooner than later. The employee should receive a positive rating for her performance; however, he should mention the importance of meeting deadlines. Advise the manager to seize the opportunity to establish clear performance expectations. As a new member of the team, her accomplishments should be recognized along with the other members.
Scenario 2 (supervisor) I would counsel the employee on the unprofessional behavior and set clear expectations for appropriate conduct. I would discuss his performance and set clear expectations for his performance. I would definitely remind him of his probationary status and that the appointment can be terminated if his work performance or conduct fails to demonstrate fitness or qualifications for continued employment.
