Transportation 2.0 10 years, 5 months ago
hey all–
I’ve received an inquiry from a consultant looking for transportation-related examples of data-mining. My knowledge of this is minimal; I’ve seen some crash analyses that incorporate crude data-mining techniques, but nothing vy recent. If anyone can pass along a cool project or initiative that exploits the technique, I’d appreciate it.

@1brsnw7jgcrwqhey Darrel–
I inherited a ton of non-social-media tasks because of some staff turnover, and then I was out for a week of RnR. Back now. Thanks for checking in!

hey John–
Love the video blog.
Re Gov 2.0, what is “enhanced value”?
(I’m a little over-scheduled today, but I’ll get back here as often as I can.)

I’m interested in seeing examples of short definitions of “Government 2.0.” What is it? Can it be defined in three sentences or less? I’m grateful for all replies.

@2754ci40epv1lHi, Stephen–
We’re partnered w/ Amtrak on a plan to extend passenger rail from KC to Fort Worth. There’s a well-organized citizen lobby keeping close eye on the proceedings. Amtrak has proposed four solutions, visible at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoTIeq0tMHQ. I live in Lawrence and would be delighted to see the expansion.

Patrick Quinn replied to the topic The Open Government Plan is Vaporware 2.0 in the forum Forum Discussions 10 years, 8 months ago
All of these discussions are premised on an absurd notion of the time required for large societies to adapt to change. If the success metric for new media and government transparency is, “Has it changed the Universe in the 24 hours since it was introduced?”, then of course new media and transparency will “fail.” This is precisely equivalent to…[Read more]

Patrick Quinn replied to the topic Among the barriers to the advance of social media how important is “Information overload” in the forum Smarter, Better, Open Government 10 years, 8 months ago
Cialdini is incorrect, insofar as “modern life” = “now.” We’re nowhere near society’s ability to amass and exploit data; the limit has yet to appear on the horizon.
Dump tons of undifferentiated data on the street with no reliable reference tools, and the time required for the group to sort and organize it will look, to the uninitiated, like a…[Read more]

From Sunday’s Federal Times:”Public Service Recognition Week should be a week of celebration. But with record levels of the population angry at and distrustful of their
government, as a recent Pew Research Center survey shows, it should
serve as a time of critical reflection for federal employees,
supervisors and managers. The Pew survey findings…[Read more] -

I’m with Christopher, a statie who won’t be affected by FedSpace.
I do think, however, that the first generation of FedSpace community leaders are right here on GovLoop.

Patrick Quinn replied to the topic Should You Ignore Citizens In-Person to Engage Others Online? in the forum Technology 10 years, 9 months ago
I’m wary of either-or constructs that imply only outlier outcomes are possible. Government shouldn’t ignore anyone who attempts engagement and respects the rules, whether in-person, over the phone, by mail, online, carrier pigeon, semaphore, whatever.
Should government devote more resources to online engagement? Yes. But an agency that concludes…[Read more]

Ballcaps.
Messenger bags.
Flash drives.
And don’t overlook helicopters. I’m thisclose to talking KDOT into buying me a helicopter. A big black helicopter w/ cool red stripes, a really big laser and a cocktail cart. I need this even more than I need an iPhone. But there’s a chance we won’t be able to find the budget, so think about a GovLoop…[Read more]
