Just found this thread, very interesting. I think teaching someone to be innovative is like teaching leadership. There are skill sets and thought processes that help and most people can develop the necessary skills to be ok at both – but some people have an inherent gift at leadership or innovative thought. It seems a common thread in the comments and the reading I have been doing that innovation comes from thinking. With our busy, digitally connected, information saturated schedules we do not have much time to think any more. Look at the growing interest in Wisdom 2.0 conferences and mindful leadership programs. To be innovative takes a lot of things – but if we have no down time to think, to connect the dots – all the special taskforces, teams and groups will never really get very far.
