Alpha! Bravo! Charlie! How Do You Translate Military Speak?
More and more veterans are coming home and they are coming to work in the government. They have great skills, well-disciplined, and as Michelle Obama said on the Colber Report “its really hard to be whiney about work when talking to a veteran.” However, the influx of veterans into the civilian sector of public service has provided some challenges – specifically in communication.
The military has a very distinct way of communicating, and it isn’t always clear civilian ears. So how does former military personnel make this transition? And how do government employees learn the military lingo?
How has your agency broken the language barrier? What are things you have learned as a civilian, or as a veteran?
To hear more on this topic and others come to the 3rd Annual GovLoop/Young Government Leaders Next Generation of Government Training Summit (July 26-27, 2012). For more information or to register please visit our website.
