In response to the question of how many of us learned Spanish as children, in my case Spanish is my first language. I was born in a Spanish speaking country and came to the U.S. as a teenager. Sometimes English and Spanish get mix in my head and it shows when I write. I think one has to keep up with vocabulary for the switches in the language to be smooth as they can be. Also languages are spoken differently in one country and other. Coloquialisms and local ways of using the languages abound, and a word might mean one thing in Mexico but have a total different meaning in Colombia. I personally love all those quirks in the languages, it makes them more rich and interesting.
