Lacey Fire District 3 is located at the southern end of Puget Sound in Washington State and serves North Thurston County and the City of Lacey. Majestic Mount Rainier and the rugged Cascade Mountains are nearby to the east, the Pacific Coast is just an hour’s drive to the west, and Seattle is 60 miles to the north. The District is one of the largest independent fire districts in Washington and it is also located in one of the fastest growing areas in the state.
The District has five fire stations, a coverage area population of approximately 86,500, and a 2011 budget of $12.6 million. District staff include 80 career responders, including 25 medics, 7 career support, 30 volunteer support, and 6 volunteer responders. Reporting to the Board of Fire Commissioners, the Fire Chief is responsible for the management and administration of all of the District’s fire and emergency medical services and resources.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, fire science, business administration or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of seven to ten years of experience in a comparable or larger agency with extensive experience in a senior management role, such as fire chief, deputy/assistant fire chief, operations chief or battalion chief. Any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the level of required knowledge and abilities will be considered.
