Steve Radick replied to the topic “Managing Up” – What does it mean and why is everyone talking about it? in the forum Leadership, Management, Supervision 8 years, 4 months ago
+1000 to Jeffrey’s list. Jeffrey’s definition and mine mirror one another. “Getting your needs met by meeting your manager’s needs” is pretty much how I’ve always defined it as well. It’s not about just making your boss’ job easier – that’s just being a good employee. It’s about accomplishing your goals by managing your boss. Jeffrey gives some…[Read more]

I don’t know if BYOD increases my productivity, but I know that BYOB increases my morale!

Steve Radick replied to the topic Dark Social: The Social Network That Is Bigger Than Facebook? in the forum Technology 8 years, 4 months ago
The most powerful statement in this piece is this –
“if you think optimizing your Facebook page and Tweets is “optimizing for social,” you’re only halfway (or maybe 30 percent) correct. The only real way to optimize for social spread is in the nature of the content itself.”
The people, government agencies, and brands who we think “do social well”…[Read more]

See, now that I think we can all agree on – our contracting companies don’t pay people like me enough 🙂

As one of the hated contractors :), I’d like to jump in and say that we tend to get a bad rap here in these sorts of discussions about salaries. However, a vast majority of the contractors that you’re working side-by-side with are making very similar salaries – the average salary of the government contractor is inflated by those C-suite execs who…[Read more]

Steve Radick replied to the topic Can I “delete” a follower on twitter? in the forum Communications, Citizen Engagement, Customer Service 9 years, 2 months ago
Let me offer a counterpoint. I dealt with a similar situation with one of my clients a few years ago. A pornstar had followed their account (a DoD account dealing with wounded warriors) and they were worried, as you are, about the potential association with their government account. Unfortunately, as I pointed out to them, that pornstar is a…[Read more]

Steve Radick replied to the topic What Would You Do? in the forum Miscellaneous 9 years, 2 months ago
I think it’s safe to say that a majority of GovLoopers can be considered “change agents,” in one fashion or another. We’re all here because we learn from one another, we empathize with each other, and we help one another. GovLoop isn’t just a website, it’s a living, breathing, community of people (at least that’s how I see it). And anytime you…[Read more]

Steve Radick replied to the topic Should Wifi Be Free Everywhere (and Should Government Pay For It?) in the forum Miscellaneous 9 years, 5 months ago
I do think everyone should have access to the Internet and there should be Wi-Fi everywhere, although I don’t think government should be paying for it. I think the current companies just need to change their model. Wi-Fi shouldn’t be tied to the device – it should be tied to the person. I should be able to have one log-in that I use whether I’m…[Read more]
