Somebody commented on one of my blog posts that “One man’s enterprise is another man’s stovepipe.” Because I find this both true and depressing, I have always (since 2004, anyway) wanted to be able to see how the various DoD (and Federal) enterprise architectures fit together.
If the Federal enterprise is made of up myriad agency enterprises, and many of those agencies partner with each other in many ways, then all their architectures should fit together like a puzzle, or at least have overlapping pieces. At least I hope they would.
Could we have a common tool for all Federal agencies to use to find their similarities, commonalities and redundancies? I envision it working kind of like Ancestry.com. When the system sees data in your tree that might match data in somebody else’s tree, it indicates this with a leaf symbol. You click on the symbol, peruse the associated documentation, and add their data if it matches.
How cool would an EA tool like that be? Maybe we could find some efficiencies, which could lead to saving some taxpayer money!!
