I can only speak for myself. I came on here to meet other government types, make new connections, and learn more about public service. At first, I admit I was bit lazy with my friend requests and I did not explain why I wanted to establish the “friendship.” Now, I let people know I am a first year MPA student at USC when I ask for a connection, in the hopes someone I can learn from will accept my request. I always read people’s profiles, see where they work, and maybe read some of what they have posted. If they appear like they could be a good “networking match” for me, I send out the request. The worst anybody can do is decline. It doesn’t hurt me to try and get to know someone.
