My name is Thera Hearne, I am an analyst at the California Health Facilities Financing Authority, which is chaired by the California State Treasurer. Most of what I do is financial analysis of applications for loans, bonds, and grants received from non-profit health facilities for projects. My analysis reports are presented to the Authority Board for funding approval. The “health facilities” we serve are broadly defined to include: clinics, rehabilitation facilities, adult day care, developmentally disabled, etc. So, I guess my connection to human services is a financial one.
When I am not working, I am a student in the Master of Public Administration program at University of Southern California. Right now, I am working on a research project on the frequency of fraud and potential fraud prevention methods in California’s In-Home Supportive Services program. If I am not studying, I veg out watching documentaries, cooking shows, and home improvement shows on TV, playing online, babysitting my niece, and sleeping. When I finish my MPA program this summer, hopefully I will have even more fun.
I define human services as humans caring for and providing services to other humans in need.
