@22jzhncyllm5gIn that statement, change takes on more than one meaning. On a personal note, I want to change myself. I want to be more receptive to new ideas, develop myself into a leader, and rewrite any assumptions and preconceptions I have held onto during my early career. From a work group perspective, I have always tried to “leave my mark” in each position I have held, even the clerical and call center positions. Previously, I sought to create some type of tool or process that added efficiency that I could leave behind. Now, I am thinking of change in broader terms. Working for a State agency, I often encounter “legacy employees” at all levels that are resistant to change of any kind. I would like to influence CA State Agency culture to be more accepting of new ideas, break down the Agency “silos”, and encourage more collaboration, especially in service delivery and civic engagement. I would also like to encourage more of my peers to embrace technology. As much as I like using it, there is more out there than just MS Office. I have lots of ideas swirling around in my head now as a first-year graduate student that has had her “eyes opened.” Right now, I am making small strides changing what I can within my sphere of influence as I am learning. Right now, I am observing and examining concepts I learn at school, in my readings, and in forums like this, looking for ways improve things that are not working in my organization. Right now, we are having some governance and accountability issues that could be improved with more clearly defined procedures, policies, guidelines, and regulations. I am working on several small projects in that area now.
