We are in the most incredible beginning point of performance measures that I am nearly embarrassed to ask the following questions. However, we have to begin somewhere.
Our Council has Long Term Outcomes identified (this is sooo cool). They have identified “two year strategies” for most of them. Now they want an indicator for each outcome; key actions and benchmarks for each strategy. Not getting totally hung up on the fact that some of the outcomes and strategies are not “perfect,” I am getting confused (and have searched) for a clear definition of an indicator; and benchmarks vs key actions. I think an indicator would be: how do we know we succeeded with the outcome? What would that look like in measurable terms — time bound and measurable? A key action would be those things we need to accomplish to implement the strategies; and a benchmark is a measure of the two year strategy and the key actions. I have also placed an “accomplishments” section for each strategy where we can measure every 6 months if we are moving ahead.
Anyone have other ideas on definitions for a group that is just now slowly entering this realm (albeit, very late at the show). I have read and read Ammons work, but not quickly seeing definitions. Thanx.
