No seeing the supervisor under those curcumstances does not cross the line. It is a good way of establishing a team spirit – comrades in wellness. But remember that person is your supervisor. I use to address my supervisor by his first name when meeting on-on-one but in formal stituations he became Mr. unless other wise told.

I would tell supervisors to develop their leadership skills. There are a lot of supervisors who have no clue as how to lead and motivate their people to meet the mission of the organization. Some want to be friends and some want to be dictators.

Richelle,
I have read all the suggestions and all are good. I am also familar with training in the state of of Montana. Try mailing out monthly flyers to the various offices or maybe flyers every 3 to 6 months advertizing your offerings to top management and your HR reps and/or participants from previous workshops. See how many people you can…[Read more] -

Dianne Floyd Sutton replied to the topic What would a “government shutdown” mean in practical terms? in the forum Forum Discussions 9 years, 11 months ago
For me as an HRD consultant to the government the shut down will mean no revenue is comming in. This will be the third time I have be affected by a federal government shut down (that is if it occurs). It is devastaing to businesses that service the government and it becomes hard to bounce back.

OK Folks all of you have made some very valid points regarding the genesis of the concept of seperation of church and state. Were any of you history majors or buffs? However, based on your discussion what does this mean for the new leaders in the government? What advice whould you give the nest generation of leaders within the government…[Read more]

You have a valid point. Historically the U.S. nas been Christan. Later it dawned to many that some people were Jewish. Now it is dawning on the U.S. that everyone is not Christain or Jewish. People started complaining so now the U.S. has to pursue the concept of seperation of church and state. I suspect the government will always have…[Read more]

Have you tried this? Exercise for a small group of 30 or less. Ask each individual to introduce themselves using the following task – choose an object on you that represents you and tell why – something on you at this moment that gives insight into who you are and what you are about. Very interesting. Examples, picture, ring, cell phone, tatoo

Dianne Floyd Sutton replied to the topic Moody boss vs. age and difficult time to find another job in the forum Human Resources 10 years, 6 months ago
There are several perspectives to examine in this situation. The suprevisor and employees may have been getting away with disrepectful and inappropriate behavior for years. Nobody complained so the supervisor and employees may now feel this is normal behavior that people will accect. This type of behavior may violate civil service rules of…[Read more]

Chris,
It usually helps if you get representatives from key offices to give an overview of the organization or the thier role, i.e. HR, EEO, etc.
I am not in the government any more but when I was, I found that the face-to-face audeince orientation worked better. -

Ok Folks,
It is all about civility (courtesy, politeness and good manners). Being civil means being constantly aware of others – weaving restraint, respect and consideration into this awareness. Lady Dianne on Workplace Etiquette
Cubical Etiquette
I am horrified by the stories my clients have confessed to me regarding their employees working in cubicles. For example, one does not cut their toes nails, nor paint their fingernails, nor discuss their personal business on the telephone in their cubicle.
Cubicles are now very common in…[Read more]
