Microsoft is a proud partner of GovLoop.
Just read a great blog post which discussed how Salt Lake City is overcoming the recent economic downturn to make the city more productive and efficient. How? The city is turning to Microsoft!
City officials recognized that a proactive approach needed to be taken to solve some problems that were not only making development processes more complex and lengthy, but very expensive.
In the past, building developers had to submit plans to up to six city departments and work with each separately to gain the proper approvals. There was a lack of collaboration and plans were sitting in various offices around the city. Without buildings going up, future jobs were not being created for local workers.
In order to turn around this inefficient process, local officials turned to Microsoft products and the city adopted a Microsoft SQL Server. The server integrates all of the permit approval process information into one shared database. An additional platform was created to allow the the status of pending development projects to be easily viewed by contractors, government, and the public.
What a great example of how Microsoft is helping local governments improve and succeed. How have you seen a local government adapt like Salt Lake? Share any examples below.
