I’m at DC Data Innovation Day today and had the opportunity to hear a panel discussion around “The Data Economy.” A point that was raised by Francine Berman (Chair, US Research Data Alliance) included how we can […]

Erik G Eitel wrote a new post, NASA and Google Quantum Computing Partnership, on the site GovLoop 6 years, 1 month ago
Google and NASA recently produced a documentary (6 mins long) around their new quantum computing partnership. I, by no means, am a quantum physicist, but this technology theoretically has the ability to turn “big […]

Erik G Eitel replied to the topic Should I Accept that LinkedIn Invitation? in the forum Miscellaneous 6 years, 4 months ago
I tend to accept just about everyone’s LinkedIn request. With that being said… I am quick to remove you as a connection if I end up receiving a bunch of self promoting emails from you. My philosophy is that while I may not know someone personally… LinkedIn can serve as a starting point to build relationships for further communication and…[Read more]

On this rainy, Friday afternoon, I had the opportunity to attend the [email protected]: Moneyball Diplomacy event at George Washington University. One panel in particular on behavioral economics stood out.

Erik G Eitel replied to the topic Top 10 Overused Buzzwords on LinkedIn in the forum Career Advancement 6 years, 11 months ago
I think this is the biggest part of this discussion. The systems that are used to pick up on key words are to blame. If you’re not using these “overused” keywords then chances are your profile and resume won’t stand out to right people through search.

Erik G Eitel replied to the topic Top 10 Overused Buzzwords on LinkedIn in the forum Career Advancement 6 years, 11 months ago
Agreed!! Endorsing someone on LinkedIn is becoming just about as valuable as clicking the “like” button on Facebook. I think that’s largely due to the fact that they suggest people to endorse right when you sign on. Hopefully that changes soon.

Erik G Eitel replied to the topic Using Instagram for Social Recruiting? in the forum Technology 6 years, 11 months ago
My thoughts were similar to those of Andrew’s… I think a contest of sorts would be the route to take, but then as Steve brings up you’d have to be careful with terms of service and security. I think there could be a future using instagram in recruiting, just as many private sector companies are using video entries as part of application…[Read more]

Erik G Eitel replied to the topic Getting Rid of RE: – Is There a Reason to Reply All? in the forum Miscellaneous 7 years ago
I think the BCC is more relevant when using CRM systems opposed to communicating with people through a chain email. I know that Salesforce has a special link that needs to be BCC’d in order to log activity. So I can’t really imagine the BCC going away any time soon, if not only for that reason.

Interesting thoughts. I’m excited to see what people have to say about this topic. Personally, I think reply all still has a function in email. As Lindsey said though, Google does the best job of managing threads so that the conversation doesn’t take up my entire inbox.

This year I am going to be doing a little bit of both. I will be traveling, but also doing some work from the road. This way I can enjoy the company of my friends and family while being semi-productive and getting some work done.

Erik G Eitel replied to the topic How do you measure the results of an intangible product? in the forum Program and Project Management 7 years ago
Interesting thought. I think though that everything can be measured in some way or another. Employee satisfaction score? Sales numbers? Efficiency? I guess it all depends on what you’re looking to measure. And depending on how much effort you want to put in to things, you could go as far as having an independent auditor measure the results of an…[Read more]

Erik G Eitel replied to the topic What Kind of Coffee Do You Order? in the forum Miscellaneous 7 years, 1 month ago
As a relatively new coffee drinker I’m still trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. I typically just order a medium (I even call it a medium at Starbucks) throw a little milk in there with two packets of regular sugar. Hazelnut is pretty good, but I don’t usually care for the flavored types of coffee.
