Doris Tirone replied to the topic 6 tips to fine-tune your search for a fed communications job on USAJOBS in the forum Federal Communicators Network 8 years ago

I’d add to this list, one’s willingness to take a lesser graded/paying job if it is career potential leading to more pay than one currently earns. Often times, govies are reluctant to take a job if it means moving to a lower grade for a year or so while learning the needed competencies to advance to their higher, desired grade level. This is…[Read more]

According to Gov Exec, a sophisticated cyberattack on the computer of a third-party Thrift Savings Plan contractor compromised the personal information of tens of thousands of TSP participants.

Be smart … just say “No”!
According to John P. Mahoney, a partner and chair of the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group at Tully Rinckey PLLC, the recent GSA scandal has agency supervisors on the lookout now for anyone who wastes tax dollars. “Employees who leave work early before a holiday weekend are easy targets.”

Doris Tirone replied to the topic Can Telework be Measured? in the forum Human Resources 8 years, 8 months ago

So here’s an interesting Telework question cut from today’s headlines… who should pay to support network connections for Teleworkers? And is this a cost that should be included in measuring a program’s success?

Doris Tirone replied to the topic Can Telework be Measured? in the forum Human Resources 8 years, 8 months ago

Ah yes, but how does one quantify that … especially when compared to “getting the work done” before telework?

We’re starting to hear from employers who jumped on the Telework wagon early in its infancy; they’re telling us about the successes they’ve realized from their pilot Telework programs.
But now-a-days it’s natural to wonder what measures they’re using to base their claims … and to wonder if the returns from Telework can really be…[Read more]

The employee’s position description (PD) is the basis upon which the supervisor assigns work so, the employee should also be certain this project work is appropriate to the PD before deciding whether to press the issue. One must also take a look at the grade level of the project work being performed or requested of the employee. If the supervisor…[Read more]

They solicited suggestions for possible regulatory changes from staff, they created an internal working group to review staff suggestions and propose a few possible changes. Then they sought written input from 30 stakeholders, receiving comments from 15 who were then invited to make additional, in-person comments to them.

Nominations are open for the 2012 Presdiential Citizens Medal so if you know someone, check out the criteria and get busy!
The White House says they’re “looking to honor a new group of heroes”. Personally, I think the real heros are here, within the walls of Federal government; the day-by-day, hard-working federal…[Read more]

HR professionals know that every organization can expect at least 1% of its workforce to be “challenging” at best. That having been said, I like what I do, where I do it, and the people with whom I work. I’m one of the fortunates, I think, but I’m very happy to have succcessfully done my research before seeking job opportunities with my current employer!

When a job offer is made contingent upon meeting some specified criteria that can only be ascertained after the job offer is made, the employer is permitted to rescind the offer if the contingency is not met. Remember: Agencies grant security clearances (not the investigating team) and this is done based on the results of a background…[Read more]
