I’ve been traveling and now have the flu…poo
While I’m here, the DISA Customer Conference was wild. I haven’t been to a working exchange like that for a long time and it was amazing how intellectually stimulating it is.
The big topic was “cloud computing” Everything as a Service, Ya’ll (EaaSY) Okay that is my phrasing, but clouds seem to be the new silver bullet, or if not that, something that deserves serious exploration as a potential solution for some specific IT problems. Another big topic was Metadata including, UCore, DoD Metadata Registry and NCES Data Services. Now you know, Records and Metadata are terminally conjoined, so this was very interesting.
As a Community of Interest (COI), we need to develop our ontology for foundational records and file plans and disposition schedules. I took a stab at it in the current version of DoD 5015.02-STD, but it is time to mature those concepts and exchange standards. In doing this we need to realize that there will always be a better way to represent things as technology improves. So one of our goals should be to come up with a process for managing technology insertion as part of the standardization process.
So much work!
