@2kx7eukwz3yq4My interests in KM are enduring in the sense that I believe KM is a long-term, strategic and operational approach to understanding an enterprise. In my current work, we are leveraging existing software to better manage information, tie activities to strategic goals, and measure progress. We understand that KM is not just technology,…[Read more]

Joe Boutte replied to the topic Federal Govt definition for Knowledge Management in the forum Knowledge Management in Government 11 years, 4 months ago

Social networking has done more for KM than all the definitions. The short blurbs and exchanges help us transfer information efficiently across organizations and geography. We use the information to make improvements in our organizations and spread the best practices. Has anyone else noticed how the marketing folks have embraced KM and social networking?

The forum brings important issues and questions to consider, discuss, and ripple through our organizations. I keep finding more important parts of GovLoop that help me in my work. The groups are super for finding experts and insight on specific topics. Multimedia connects me to videos and media that generate ideas, and each member’s page helps to…[Read more]

@2kx7eukwz3yq4I recently spent a couple of weeks in Phoenix and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about the region. The heat was memorable, but one must find AC where one can. Look forward to discussing various issues with you.

I’m looking forward to when the government has microblogging capabilities within its firewalls. Some agencies already have capabilities and more are falling in line. Microblogging simplifies routine communications and may help get information out of email inboxes to people that can add value, take action, or make decisions.

Intelink provides blogging on three networks for the Intelligence Community and the capability is widely used throughout the government by anyone with access to Intelink-U, S, or TS. The blogs are uses for information sharing, collaboration, and enhancing mission integration. It’s very useful and widespread. I try to blog at least once per week on…[Read more]

Joe Boutte replied to the topic Another Survey in the forum Government 2.0 Club 11 years, 7 months ago

In my view, there is an increasing awareness of tools and capabilities that already exist in organizations that allow HR policies to be made more accessible. The proliferation of SharePoint is one example and as the survey points out, email use is on the rise. I find it very redundant and distracting that email is sent several times per day…[Read more]

Is it really a new word or just part of an ever changing set of techno lingo that gets created everyday. At least there is a standard for getting recognized as a word. Thanks for sharing this. Very interesting development in terms of our social and linguistic evolution.

I guess it comes down to maturity. When will we achieve full maturity and integration of processes and technology into the various government cultures! This is a great reminder of how language or buzzwords make us think that real change has occurred. Lots of progress and new tools, but the basic issue is communicating, coordinating, and…[Read more]

Joe Boutte replied to the topic Concerns about social networking in the forum Government 2.0 Club 11 years, 9 months ago

Social media has an aspect of crowdsourcing, but the most important part of an organization is it’s human capital: the people. The individuals that make a company strong and diverse should not be perceived as a threat to the organization, private or public. Having stars in the organization isn’t a bad thing as long as the stars understand the…[Read more]

    Henry,
Are you on Twitter? If not you should consider “tweeting” some of these links. Check my Twitter out at http://twitter.com/joeboutte. Twitter is becoming more useful as government uses it to communicate headlines and news to citizens. I added a Twitter feed to my page here that captures all the Gov 2.0 tweets. Let me know what you think.

    Henry,
I’m reading the paper and there are some great arguments and assertions. I follow Mark on Twitter and other sites and he is leading the evolution. Many would hope that it was a revolution, but the wheels of change move slow in the government bureaucracies. I really like the framework which includes inward sharing, outward sharing, inbound…[Read more]

I thing that the successful strategy is to embrace social media with a focused training and awareness program to ensure that government employees understand the security issues, privacy concerns, governance, and use policies. Although it is very democratic to embrace social media for government, some rules should be in place to ensure that citizen…[Read more]
