I did an interview last week for Capitol Public Radio (Sacramento, CA) regarding a recent open policymaking experiment by California Assemblyman Mike Gatto:
Capitol Public Radio: “Lawmaker Turns to Crowdsourcing to Create Legislation”
It was Gatto’s first try, and he says he’ll try again this year. Lots of potential if done right, but would require a much more robust process design.
Technically, he might end up with something that includes some level of stakeholder engagement as well, involving people or groups that have a known interest or expertise on the issue, not just “the crowd”.
Either way, it’s always great to see when decision makers try to learn digital engagement by actually doing.
How would you rate this project? Do you have any other recent efforts in the policymaking or lawmaking area that are worth a look?
