CityCamp Raleigh – This Weekend!

Less than two months ago, a small group comprised of active citizens, software developers and a city council member convened to launch what has become this weekend’s CityCamp Raleigh in the capitol of North Carolina.

In just a few short weeks, the group has been able to nail down almost a dozen sponsors, a $5,000 prize and several notable speakers, including State CIO Jerry Fralick, Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker and CTO Gail Roper.

As a Durham resident, I’m particularly excited since this is happening in my backyard. Right when I found out about it, I volunteered to help and GovLoop stepped up to host a GovUp. Below are a few more details about the event from their media alert:

WHO: CityCamp Raleigh, the first city-focused “unconference” in North Carolina that brings together government, business, neighborhood, non-profit, and academic communities working toward next generation solutions for Raleigh.

WHAT: CityCamp Raleigh announces a $5000 prize to be awarded to the top group or individual with a technology solution. The prize will be awarded on creativity, execution, and feasibility. Details will be provided at the event. Additionally, attendance to the event is free and the first 150 registrants (online at http://citycampral.org/register/) will receive complimentary breakfast and lunch during the event. The prize and complimentary food and beverages are possible from sponsor contributions: Red Hat, Alfresco, IBM, GoTriangle.org, WRAL.com, Downtown Raleigh Alliance, Tropo, Raleigh Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Raleigh Economic Development, SAS, Sunlight Foundation, GovLoop, Gov 2.0 Radio and GovDelivery.
