So I have this friend who is always losing their cell phone. You may know this kind of person. You may be this person. For many of us cell phone users, losing our cell phone feels like losing a limb, and the time it takes to find or replace it feels like lightyears of torture. So how can we prevent this from happening?

Here are some ways that you can make sure you stop losing your phone:

  • Make it a habit to check that you have it. Check before you leave the house, before leaving the office, the coffee shop, the bar. Call me compulsive but I always check that I have my mobile on me before I leave any place that I’m at.
  • Try the Zomm Wireless Leash, a small device that can hook on to your keys and notify you when you get too far from your phone. Getting this small device will cost you less than replacing a lost phone, and save you the freak out.
  • Always keep your mobile phone in the same place. This is an obvious one, but if something has spot that you always put it when you get home, you’re a lot less likely to lose track of it. Always keep your phone in the same pocket of your purse or computer bag. If you keep it in a jacket pocket then make sure it’s always on the same side.
  • Don’t put your mobile phone in your pocket. Guys, guys, guys. This is huge. One of the most common ways to lose a mobile phone is putting it into a back pocket. As you sit down and get up, it wiggles its way out. Naturally it ends up getting left behind somewhere.
  • Set your alarm to go off several times per day. An alarm will remind you where your phone is. Also, if for some reason your phone gets lost during the day, you know it will ring at a certain time.
  • Put an ID label on your mobile phone. One good way to avoid permanently losing your gadgets is to make sure that people who find them have an easy way to get them back to you. Yes, there are some awesome people out there who will return a phone, especially if it is clearly marked as someone else’s.
  • Have other people ask you if you have your mobile phone with you. If you don’t like the idea of an alarm going off, use your friends. When you are out for drinks with friends, have someone remind you to check for your phone before you leave the restaurant.
  • Use Phone Finder applications. I know people who have WaveSecure for their Droids and Blackberries. The app lets you locate your phone if it gets lost, and lock it down if need be all by computer.

Hope those of you who are constantly losing your cell phone find these tips helpful. Think about trying them out and let us know what you think!
