Survey: Remote Workers Are Getting More Remote

A recent survey by Gallup found that employees who work remotely full-time are increasingly disengaged from their organization’s mission and purpose.

Overall, the percentage of employees who feel engaged at work remains highest with hybrid and exclusively remote employees, at 38% each, compared to 30% for on-site employees.

However, the percentage of remote workers who say they feel connected to their organization’s mission and purpose dropped from 31% in 2022 to 28% in mid-2023. In contrast, the numbers remained steady for hybrid (35%) and on-site (33%) employees.

“It is possible that some employees and job roles are not a good fit for exclusively remote work that requires ongoing collaboration and response to spontaneous demands of customers and colleagues,” the report states. “That, of course, should be carefully vetted based on each organization’s ultimate purpose and job demands.”
