How to guide for implementing the Digital Government Strategy

We’ve talked a lot about the White House’s new Digital Government Strategy. But if you haven’t seen it, you can find our recap here.

It’s a massive strategy with more than 29 goals that all need to be accomplished in a very short period of time.

So how do you actually implement the plan?

That’s where the General Services Administration comes into play. The GSA will be leading the effort to develop governmentwide services.

Sheila Campbell is the director for the Center for Excellence in Digital Government. She told Chris Dorobek on the DorobekINSIDER program about GSA’s role.

“We wanted a plan that could be achieved in a year. We didn’t want to come out with a 5 year plan because by then the technology could be outdated,” said Campbell.

Build once: GSA will play a lead role in developing governmentwide services. Build it once and use it across government.

Budget: People don’t have enough money in these lean fiscal times to go it alone. That’s why shared services works. It is also why collaborative peer networks are so important. Networks like the CIO council.

Customer Centric Approach: Real focus on the customer experience. People need to be able have access to government data, anywhere, anyplace on any device.
