National Dialogue on Homeland Security

This is going to be a great project and we need the GovLoop community’s help. DHS is doing their 1st QHSR (quadrennial review) and wants to hear from the homeland security community to set the strategy.

As part of that they are doing an online dialogue similar to the ones done by White House and others.

It starts in a couple weeks but make sure to sign up for updates and participate when it starts in a couple weeks.

Secretary Napolitano views the QHSR as an opportunity for unprecedented collaboration and partnership across the homeland security stakeholder community. Stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide substantive input in two primary ways:

1. By responding to a solicitation of thoughts, positions, or ideas from the Department on any aspect of the QHSR study plan; and
2. By participating in online collaborative dialogue sessions where stakeholders will provide substantive input at specified points throughout the review.

Secretary Napolitano began the outreach process by sending a letter (by e-mail) to over 100 associations on June 3, 2009. The letter (PDF, 6 pages – 157 KB) explained the QHSR process and scope and requesting substantive input. Associations were asked to submit thoughts, positions, or ideas via e-mail to the Department by June 26, 2009.

Over the next three months, the Department will conduct a series of Web-based, interactive dialogues around the key questions and topics in the review. Internal agencies, external partners—including federal agencies, state, local and tribal governments, first responders, business leaders, academics, and other policy experts—and the concerned public will be engaged.

To fulfill this vision, the Department has partnered with the National Academy of Public Administration to host three collaborative, online National Homeland Security Dialogue sessions:

* August 3-August 9
* August 31-September 6
* September 28-October 4

Pre-registration begins on July 16, 2009 at www.homelandsecuritydialogue.org where QHSR study groups will po
