Big Data & the Big Dilemma- Government Information and Analytics Conference

The numbers are impressive- 90% of the data in our world was created in the past two years and 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created every day. Basically big data is a big deal and is here to stay. Government organizations are quickly realizing this and the immense benefits, namely reduced costs, operational efficiency, and a way to make data-driven decisions in the era of budget cuts and limited resources. There are many questions around tools and technologies required to handle big data, as well as the management and policy issues that come with it. Above all, how do you begin and what agencies are already doing it well?

On November 28, David M. Wennergren, Assistant Deputy Chief Management Officer, DoD, will share how DCMO, facing budget cuts and limited resources, is leveraging big data to achieve greater effectiveness, increased efficiency and improved performance at the Government Information and Analytics Summit. In addition to David’s keynote address, there are six interactive sessions led by government thought leaders that will highlight how government is using big data, best practices and case studies of agencies doing it well.

The Government Information and Analytics Summit is being held on November 28 & 29 at the Walter E. Washington Conference Center in Washington D.C. It is designed to provide government technology professionals with a full spectrum of topics to improve agency-wide collaboration for a smarter and more efficient government. Along with big data, there are four other conference tracks: knowledge management, information sharing, business intelligence and record and information management. You can learn more about the individual conferences, expo center, and see a full list of speakers here. This is a great opportunity to learn about the latest technology, network with fellow peers, and learn best practice strategies for leveraging analytics.

What’s even better- the GIAS is co-located this year with the Enterprise Architecture Conference. This conference and expo will bring together chief enterprise architects, CIOs, and program managers from across federal civilian agencies, the Department of Defense and state and local organizations, as well as industry to discuss the critical application of EA methodologies to today’s top government priorities, including: cloud computing, shared services, information sharing, cybersecurity and mobility.
