How to Climb the Gov Career Ladder

We are nearing the holiday season, and for many of us that means heading home to face a family of loving inquisitors. They want to know when you’re getting married. Do you want kids? How is your job? Are you a manager yet? Are you running the agency? Are you basically President yet?

While the questions are invasive, if you are anything like me, you return to work with a vague sense of unease, because at the root of the questions is a kernel of truth. I really do want a promotion/new job/management position. I do want to take the next step in my government career.

The obvious conundrum is how I go about getting that promotion or new job. The good news is that GovLoop and NextGen have teamed up to create a six-month leadership and development program aimed at giving you the tools and resources you need to become a government leader.

So while we can solve your relationship conundrums, we can help you answer those pesky job questions.

What’s in the NextGen Leadership and Development Program you might ask? Program participants will be matched with a mentor based on the executive core qualifications and the mentee’s specific action plan. Participants will engage in a series of online training sessions focused on leadership, development and career advancement. The program also includes the two-day in-person Next Generation of Government Training Summit, co-hosted by GovLoop and Young Government Leaders.

The program includes:

The program kicks off in May. If you are interested in learning more you can check out this link or you can email me at Emily@govloop.com.

One past participant said, “If it were not for the NextGen Leadership Development Program I probably would have left federal service. I don’t know if I can ever thank you enough for the excellent work you do very selflessly to support those in government.” Sounds like that person had a very good answer to the Thanksgiving family question-asking marathon. You could, too!
